With apologies to Philip Larkin
Aug 9, 2014
This be the note
I ate them up, the plums you had
Been saving for your morning meal
Forgive me, please, and don’t be mad
They had a cold and sweet appeal.
You ate my peaches just last week
That I intended for a pie,
And when confronted had the cheek
To feed me some outrageous lie.
We eat each others’ food too much.
It’s going to make us scream and shout.
You put up labels: “do not touch”,
And as for me, I’ll just eat out.
