Told me meat was too plebeian / Told me you were through with viand

May 21, 2005

I purchased shoes—serviceable shoes, not stylish shoes, just shoey shoes—and I had cause to describe them. I used words to describe them, but I used an incorrect word. The word I used meant the precise opposite thing (had the precise opposite meaning) from that which I thought it meant (had).

I didn't mean to. It was an innocent mistake. I was an innocent then, with respect to words. I was like a child wandering through the forest of words, going mushroom-hunting (for words). This child (me) accidentally picked up an Amanita phalloides of words, and ate it, of words. It was delicious, the way words are.

My new shoes don't make me sad, but I am prepared to lie, and claim that they do.

So WATCH IT, buddy!

I was talking about this Michael Lewis piece on language and lying recently--on my blog or unfogged. Seems related.

That article was pretty tight-lipped on the subject of shoes.

It's my constant woe--my baby don't care for shows, my baby don't care for clothes, my baby just cares for meat.

But I didn't get that -- it only reminded me of Dylan.
